What is an Exercise Physiologist?

Exercise physiologists or EPs are university-trained Allied Health professionals with the knowledge, abilities, and skills to plan, carry out, and assess safe and efficient exercise therapies for patients with acute, sub-acute, or chronic illnesses, injuries, or impairments. Working alongside a Physiotherapist, an EP can follow recommendations for exercises, diagnosis, and treatment for your concerns, we call this a holistic approach.

Once your pain is managed well and your mobility and flexibility are starting to return through Physiotherapy, we can make an appointment with one of the Exercise Physiologists at Pivot Health Group. Your Exercise Physiologist will build on the groundwork laid during physiotherapy, alter how you move, and ensure that you can move more freely perform better and avoid injury.

How Can We Help?

Your exercise physiologist will customize your sessions to suit your needs and help you reach your objectives. They are qualified to recommend exercises to persons with musculoskeletal problems, medical illnesses, or who wish to achieve their objectives.
Your EP knows that everybody is different and has the knowledge to prescribe safe but effective exercises. Most significantly, you can expect enjoyment from your sessions!
Our EPs hold university degrees and have received significant training in designing safe exercise regimens for everyone. They spent four years studying the human body and how it responds to exercise. Your EP works closely with your Physio to make sure you are on track.

What To Expect?

We want to ensure we have enough time at your initial session to discuss your requirements and unique issues. For this reason, we give initial consultations up to an hour.

We will perform a thorough assessment first to find any injuries or dangers associated with the activity. Then, we’ll go through your medical background, prescriptions, way of life, and nutrition.

Your goals and the types of exercise you are interested in will be discussed with our EP. After all, if you don’t love your program, you might not get the outcomes you want.

Finally, we’ll provide a unique fitness schedule. This program will include straightforward exercises that are safe and specifically designed to help you reach your objectives.

Why should I visit an exercise physiologist?

An exercise physiologist may recommend and customize the best exercise program for your body’s needs, injuries, and current health status in light of the substantial body of research demonstrating the therapeutic benefits of exercise for the majority of chronic illnesses. Here are a few justifications for seeking treatment from an exercise physiologist:

Your quality of life, independence, pain management, and life expectancy will all improve if you follow the right exercise guidance for your chronic disease or conditions!

Frequently Asked Questions

Although each session is unique, we always begin with a mental health check-in. We focus on your emotional and physical health before beginning your session program since we think it is an important part of your overall wellness. We consider every facet of your health to make sure we recommend the safest and most efficient solutions.

If necessary, we could take measurements of your pain threshold or blood pressure. These will be finished both before and after the workout. Every session will start with a warm-up to get the blood flowing and the muscles more activated, whether cardio, dynamic or mobility work. Your risk of injury will be lower if you warm up.

A structured program will be prescribed, consisting of various exercises to achieve your goals. Each session will be different as we try to prescribe multiple fun and challenging activities. Stretching will be done at the end of your session to help with post-session soreness.

In an initial consultation, your Exercise Physiologist will gather information regarding your medical & injury history and your experience with exercise (including likes/dislikes) and assist in setting achievable and realistic goals with you. You can expect some activities or exercises in the consultation, primarily for assessment purposes. This includes determining your present levels of strength, cardio fitness, flexibility, and any other factors related to any goals you or your EP may have for you. Your EP may prescribe some home exercises and assist with other lifestyle advice & self-management techniques to help you achieve your goals.

EPs have received significant training in the treatment of chronic illnesses and injuries. They have a four-year degree from an academic institution focusing on human anatomy and biomechanics.

Even though we focus on medium- to high-risk clients, we are qualified to support anyone on their travels through fitness. As EP, we can customize programs rather than only use generic ones to meet the needs of certain individuals.
